Blanca De La Rosa: When Women Stop Shrinking

Blanca De La Rosa

Why purpose, value, and boundaries become the strategy that helps women rise without losing themselves.

A job title can open doors, yet it can also place invisible limits on how people see you. In many corporate spaces, the first role you start with becomes a label you spend years outgrowing, especially when you are a woman expected to stay agreeable, quiet, and grateful for whatever space you are given. The truth is, the climb rarely begins with confidence. It begins with a decision.

Blanca De La Rosa made that decision early.

She began her corporate journey as a secretary at Mobil, learning the rhythm of high-pressure work from the front row. She observed how conversations shifted when certain people entered, how authority was assumed, and how respect was often tied to hierarchy rather than ability. Instead of accepting the limits others might place on her, she treated every day as a training session, building skills, awareness, and resilience in silence.

Years later, that same woman rose into the role of Global Business Development Manager at ExxonMobil, carrying responsibility that demands clarity, strategy, and a strong inner spine. For Blanca, resilience is never a personality trait that some people are born with. Resilience is a practice. It is what you repeat when life tests you, when doubt appears, and when your worth is questioned without reason.

That belief became the reason she wrote Unshaken. Her message is direct and deeply personal: power is not granted by titles or institutions. Power is awakened through clarity, courage, and the refusal to let anyone else define your value.

Her story leaves a lasting reminder, delivered without drama: when you trust your inner compass, you can rise from any starting point, and you can do it without losing yourself.

“Power isn’t granted by titles — it’s awakened from within.”

When Silence Ended

International assignments do more than test competence. They expose power dynamics fast, especially when culture decides what behavior gets tolerated. Blanca’s turning point came when she stopped absorbing disrespect and started responding to it.

Every international assignment expanded her understanding of leadership, but Latin America left a particularly deep imprint. In several negotiations, she was the only woman in the room, and often the only woman in the building. Machismo was alive and well. Men made inappropriate comments and sexual innuendos, assuming that because she was of Latin descent, she would accept behavior rooted in outdated cultural norms.

At first, she did not know how to respond; she had never been treated that way by colleagues in the United States. But after the third incident, she realized that silence was not protection; it was surrender.

Speaking up in those moments taught her one of the most important leadership lessons of her career: authority is not given, it is claimed. That experience shaped the core message of Unshaken: that women must stand firmly in their worth, even in environments that try to diminish them. It strengthened her resolve to lead with clarity, courage, and an unwavering sense of self, no matter the cultural context.

“In Latin America, I learned that silence isn’t protection — it’s surrender.”

Representation With Impact

Representation gets treated like optics. Blanca views it differently. When people see leadership that looks like them, it changes how they show up, how they speak, and what they believe they can become.

Global Organization for the Advancement of Latinos (GOAL) taught her that representation is not symbolic; it is strategic. When Latinos see themselves reflected in leadership, it changes how they navigate the organization. Leading GOAL deepened her commitment to visibility and equity, themes that are central to Unshaken. Advocacy is not an extracurricular activity; it is a responsibility that strengthens the entire organization.

“Representation isn’t symbolic; it’s a strategic force for equity.”

Leading Across Cultures

Global leadership demands flexibility, but it also demands awareness. Blanca’s leadership style evolved by learning what different regions expect from communication, trust, and authority.

In Europe, she had to adjust to a communication style that was more direct and less hierarchical. In Latin America, relationship building was essential. In Nigeria, adaptability was non-negotiable.

These experiences taught her that leadership is not one-size-fits-all. It must be responsive, respectful, and rooted in awareness, a message she emphasizes in Unshaken when she writes about leading unshaken in unfamiliar environments.

“Global leadership demands humility, cultural intelligence, and the courage to adapt.”

Identity as an Advantage

Young professionals often feel pressure to blend in, soften their voice, or hide parts of themselves to be taken seriously. Blanca’s message pushes against that instinct, especially for Hispanic talent stepping into corporate spaces.

She tells them: Your identity is not a liability, it is your power. Too often, young professionals feel pressure to shrink or assimilate. Unshaken reminds them that authenticity is a competitive advantage. Your story, your culture, and your lived experience, these are assets that shape your leadership.

“Your identity is not a liability — it is your competitive advantage.”

The Moment that Made it Personal

Some interactions stay with you because they confirm exactly why the work matters. For Blanca, one young woman’s reaction after a keynote became a reminder that visibility changes people.

After one keynote, a young woman approached her in tears and said, “I didn’t know someone like me could lead at that level.” That moment stayed with her. It reinforced why she wrote Unshaken: because when women see themselves reflected in stories of resilience, they begin to imagine new possibilities for their own lives.

The Lesson that Hurt First

Career growth is not always blocked by a lack of skill. Sometimes it is blocked by waiting too long to speak up. Blanca learned that lesson early, and it reshaped how she approaches leadership and self-advocacy.

Early in her career, she waited too long to advocate for herself. She assumed hard work would speak for her. It does not. That mistake taught her the importance of visibility and self advocacy, principles she now teaches in Unshaken. You must be the campaign manager of your own career. You must promote that product called You.

“Hard work matters, but visibility moves careers.”

Writing as Reclamation

Writing can pull you back into experiences you moved past quickly, especially the ones you survived without processing. For Blanca, Unshaken became a way to connect the dots between what happened and what it built.

Writing Unshaken allowed her to revisit moments she had survived but never fully examined: the merger, the international assignments, the biases, the victories. It helped her see the through-line: resilience inherited from the women before her, especially her grandmother Rosa María Acosta. The book became both a reflection and a reclamation.

“Writing Unshaken became both a reflection and a reclamation of my journey.”

Clarity Changes Everything

Confidence gets framed as a mindset. Blanca narrows it down further. For her, the biggest shift happens when women gain clarity, because clarity stops them from negotiating against themselves.
The strategy that changes everything is clarity, clarity of purpose, clarity of value, clarity of boundaries. When women know who they are and what they bring, they stop negotiating against themselves. Clarity is the foundation of living unshaken.

“Clarity is the foundation of living unshaken.”

Mentorship in Motion

Mentorship is not advice alone. It is building the tools people were never taught: presence, visibility, and strategy. Blanca has seen how fast careers change when women stop waiting to be noticed.

She once mentored a young woman who was repeatedly overlooked for promotions. She had the talent but not the visibility. Together, they built her strategic presence, networking, advocating, and showcasing her results. Within a year, she was promoted. That transformation reflected the core message of Unshaken: empowerment grows when women stop shrinking and start standing fully in their power.

“Empowerment grows when women stop shrinking and stand fully in their power.”

Advice Every Woman Needs

Many women carry doubt that was handed to them by environments that were never built for them. Blanca’s advice cuts through that pattern with one direct reminder: belonging is earned through talent, and talent earns space.

She wishes someone had told her: You belong in every room your talent has earned you. Women often internalize doubt that was never theirs to carry. Her advice is simple: walk into every room as if your presence is expected, because it is.

“Walk into every room as if your presence is expected — because it is.”

Legacy in Progress

Career strategy can help women survive corporate spaces. Blanca’s mission goes further. Unshaken is about identity, resilience, and making sure the next generation inherits courage instead of silence.

Unshaken expands her mission by moving beyond career strategy into legacy, identity, and generational resilience. What comes next is continuing to amplify women’s stories, especially those erased or minimized, and helping women awaken the power within. Her goal is to ensure that the next generation inherits not invisibility, but courage.

“My mission is to ensure the next generation inherits courage, not invisibility.”

Resilience is the legacy I inherited, and empowerment is the legacy I choose to leave. My hope is that every woman learns to trust her own voice, rise with conviction, and carry her power unapologetically into every room she enters, affirms Blanca.
