Originally from Mumbai, an innate passion for innovation, novel scientific discoveries, creating new ventures, and stimulating global dialogue led her to experiment with a career in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry across Mumbai, Boston, Cambridge, and California. She trained as a neuroscientist at Boston University, Brandeis University, and MIT, institutions at the forefront of technology, life sciences, and innovation. Very early on, she was fascinated by how neuroscience was one of the few fields that encompassed learnings from physics, math, computer science, and human biology, a science built from the interconnectivity between several fields, giving it a rare complexity that would take a lifetime and more to study.
The Crucible of Program Leadership
Over the course of 15 years, this took Samiksha through early-stage life science startups, mid-sized biotechnology ventures, and large pharmaceutical organizations like Biogen & Novartis, and she became well-versed in the balancing act of the discovery and business of science, along with lessons in leadership along the way. In her most recent role in program leadership, she was motivated by the opportunity of being the youngest leader to lead cross-functional teams with scientists, engineers, clinicians, regulators, and commercial leaders on several multi-million dollar programs that moved forward some of the most rigorous scientific, clinical, and commercial drug discovery and development portfolios. However, this came with the realization that there was a lot more that this field needed: more connectivity, more access, and continuous innovation. Leaving the stability of a program leadership role in pharma seemed daunting initially, but she was motivated by the freedom to design, shape, and grow her own venture. This courage provided the impetus to create What’s Next for Pharma, a venture focused on creating connectivity, access, and innovation in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry.

Developing a profound awareness of one’s capabilities and limitations, while maintaining a clear distinction between individual leadership priorities and the demands of the external environment, is vital for ventures requiring sustained dedication and expertise. Furthermore, achieving a balance of self-assurance and intellectual humility when introducing innovative concepts to collaborators and teams consistently nurtures more robust and effective professional partnerships.
