Douaa Kayed: Empowering People Through Fitness and Strength Training

Douaa Kayed

Helping people rethink fitness, build confidence, and discover what their bodies and minds are truly capable of!

The fitness industry can make strength look like something people either have or lack. Images of highly trained bodies, demanding workouts and impressive physical ability can leave beginners wondering where they fit into that picture. For many, the comparison happens before they ever take the first step.

Douaa Kayed came to fitness with a different understanding of what it could give people. She had seen how often people underestimated themselves, both physically and mentally, because they assumed strength belonged to athletes or those who were already fit. She wanted to challenge that belief and help people recognise abilities they had yet to discover.

For Douaa, fitness was never simply about how the body looks. Her interest has always centred on what a stronger body makes possible and how that physical progress can influence the way a person sees themselves. The changes can reach into confidence, self-belief and the willingness to take on challenges that once felt out of reach.

That belief has formed her work throughout her career. She sees strength as something that develops through effort and experience, giving people room to begin wherever they are rather than waiting until they feel ready or capable enough.

This approach has remained consistent across the people she works with. A beginner may be taking their first steps into fitness, while an athlete may be working towards a higher level of performance. A coach may be developing their own practice, while a leadership team may be looking at strength from a wider perspective. Each person brings a different starting point, yet the same idea can apply.

You do not have to start strong; you just have to start. For Douaa, that simple thought has become a lasting principle throughout her career, determining the way she works with beginners, athletes, coaches and leadership teams alike.

Adapting Fitness to People and Culture

Working across Canada and Saudi Arabia taught Douaa that fitness is never just about exercise. It’s influenced by culture, lifestyle, accessibility, education, and people’s relationship with health.

One of the biggest lessons for her was learning not to assume that one approach works for everyone. You have to understand the person, the environment, and the culture before you can create meaningful change.

That experience formed her leadership style. Today, she focuses on adapting her communication and coaching while keeping the same core principles: professionalism, consistency, accountability, and genuine care for people.

From Great Coach to Strong Leader

The transition from coaching individuals to leading a team can change what success looks like. A coach may be responsible primarily for an individual’s progress, while a leader has to create the conditions for several people to perform and develop well.

For Douaa, the biggest mistake is believing that being a great coach automatically makes you a great leader.

When coaching one person, the focus is on one’s own performance. When leading a team, success is measured by how well other people are developed.

She helps coaches make that transition by changing their mindset from “I need to do everything” to “I need to develop people who can do it.” That means giving clear expectations, creating accountability, communicating consistently, and, most importantly, giving coaches the confidence and tools to make decisions themselves.

A strong leader doesn’t create dependence. A strong leader creates more leaders.

Lessons Learned in the Ring

Boxing brings a different dimension to fitness because physical performance is closely tied to how a person responds when they are tired, challenged or under pressure. For Douaa, those lessons extend far beyond conditioning.

Boxing teaches something very powerful: you cannot always control what comes at you, but you can control how you respond.

You get tired. You get challenged. You make mistakes. You get hit. And you learn to stay focused and keep moving.

That’s exactly how she approaches coaching. She wants people to understand that discomfort doesn’t automatically mean they’re failing. Sometimes discomfort is where growth happens.

With her team, she uses the same philosophy. They don’t build a mindset around problems; they build a mindset around solutions. When something goes wrong, the question is not “Why did this happen?” It’s “What are we going to do about it?”

The Transformation Beyond the Physical

Strength building, weight management, athletic performance and injury recovery can produce visible changes, but some transformations carry a different significance. For Douaa, the most memorable moments are connected to what people begin to believe about themselves.

The transformations that stay with her most are not necessarily the ones where someone loses the most weight or lifts the heaviest weight.

They are the moments when someone changes what they believe is possible for themselves.

She has seen people come in with very little confidence and gradually become stronger, more disciplined, and more willing to challenge themselves. The physical transformation becomes a reflection of an internal transformation.

It taught her that our biggest limitations are often not physical. They’re the stories we tell ourselves about what we’re capable of.

Turning Big Goals into Small Decisions

Ambitious goals can appear intimidating when viewed as one enormous achievement. Douaa experienced this directly while preparing for a Guinness World Record, where reaching the final outcome depended on what happened through countless smaller moments.

A Guinness World Record sounds like one big achievement, but the reality is that it’s thousands of small decisions made consistently.

The preparation required discipline, patience, physical preparation, mental preparation, and the ability to keep going even when motivation wasn’t there.

That experience changed the way she looks at goals. She doesn’t believe in waiting until you feel motivated. She believes in building systems and habits that keep you moving forward.

She teaches everyday clients the same principle: don’t focus only on the finish line. Break the big goal into smaller commitments, execute them consistently, and allow those small wins to build momentum.

Staying Grounded in the Fundamentals

The fitness industry is constantly introducing new diets, workouts, supplements and trends, often with promises of quick results. For clients looking for shortcuts, a coach has to separate what is exciting from what can actually be sustained.

Douaa always brings the conversation back to fundamentals.

There will always be a new diet, a new workout, a new supplement, or a new trend promising incredible results. But the fundamentals haven’t changed: movement, strength, cardiovascular fitness, nutrition, recovery, sleep, and consistency.

Her job as a coach is not to tell people what they want to hear. It’s to educate them about what will actually work and what they can maintain.

If a strategy produces results for two weeks but cannot be sustained for two years, she doesn’t consider that success.

Creating Excellence Through Team Culture

A high-performing fitness team depends on more than individual talent. The experience clients receive is shaped by the standards coaches maintain together, from preparation and communication to accountability and continued learning.

For Douaa, a high-performing team is not simply a team with talented individuals. It’s a team with shared standards.

You can feel it when you walk into a gym. The coaches are prepared. They communicate. They care about the member experience. They hold each other accountable. They continue learning.

The habits clients feel most are consistency, energy, professionalism, and attention to detail.

She believes culture is created through the small things repeated every day. If coaches consistently demonstrate excellence internally, the client eventually experiences that excellence externally.

Building a Career on Your Own Terms

Women entering fitness leadership may encounter expectations about how they should behave, lead and establish credibility, particularly in markets where the industry is still developing. Douaa believes the answer lies in building authority through knowledge, results and character while remaining authentic.

Her advice is simple: don’t wait for permission to become the leader you know you can be.

Build your knowledge. Build your results. Build your reputation. And most importantly, build your character.

Respect doesn’t come from a title. It comes from consistency, competence, accountability, and the way you treat people.

For women especially, she believes it’s important not to feel that they need to change who they are to fit someone else’s definition of leadership. They can be strong and compassionate. They can be ambitious and supportive. They can lead with confidence without losing their authenticity.

A career should be built on one’s values, not on other people’s expectations.

Preparing for the Future of Fitness

The health and fitness industry is moving toward a more integrated relationship with everyday life. Technology, data, personalized coaching and digital platforms are also changing how people access support and measure progress.

Douaa believes the biggest opportunity is moving fitness from being something people do occasionally to becoming an integrated part of people’s lifestyle and identity.

The industry is also becoming more connected through technology, data, personalized coaching, and digital platforms. But she doesn’t believe technology will replace great coaches. She believes it will make great coaches more effective.

Her focus is on building systems, developing coaches, and creating experiences that combine science, technology, human connection, and accountability.

She wants to help build the next generation of fitness professionals, not just people who can deliver workouts, but coaches who can educate, lead, inspire, and create lasting change.

For Douaa, the future of fitness is not simply about getting people fitter. It’s about helping people become stronger, more confident, and more capable in every area of their lives.
