Dr. Sanjay Sarda: Guiding People Through Coaching, Mentoring and Music Towards Greater Purpose

Dr. Sanjay Sarda

A corporate leader turned consultant, life coach, mentor and music therapist encouraging individuals and organisations find purpose, strengthen resilience and create meaningful impact.

It is interesting how people learn to solve problems long before they learn to understand themselves. Years are spent studying, building careers, taking on responsibilities, and becoming good at what they do. Yet somewhere along the way, a different set of questions can begin to appear. What gives all of this meaning? What makes a person feel fulfilled? And what happens when professional success keeps growing while happiness and purpose become harder to find?

Perhaps that is one of the quieter challenges facing people and organisations today. There is so much emphasis on performance, leadership, resilience, and results that the person behind all these expectations can easily get overlooked. People can be capable, experienced, and successful, while still searching for healthier relationships, greater emotional balance, or a clearer sense of purpose.

Dr. Sanjay Sarda has spent much of his own life moving towards these questions. His journey began with engineering and senior leadership, where analytical thinking and structured problem-solving became an important part of how he understood the world. He went on to become a seasoned corporate leader and entrepreneur, followed by roles as a consultant, advisor, life coach, mentor, and music therapist. Alongside these professional chapters, he continued a personal journey as a spiritual seeker, exploring another way of understanding people and life.

What makes his journey particularly interesting is the way these experiences have come together. Logic sits alongside intuition. Emotional intelligence meets creativity. Coaching and mentoring meet music and spirituality. Each has given him another way to understand what people carry within themselves and what may help them move forward.

Today, Dr. Sarda describes himself as a “Positivity Catalyst” and “Happiness Enhancer.” His focus is helping people and organisations build purpose, resilience, and healthier relationships, while encouraging individuals to discover their unique gifts and recognise the value they can create through them.

For him, this work comes from a deeper philosophy of continuous self-discovery and reinvention. His coaching, mentoring, music, and spiritual exploration are connected by the same belief: when people discover what is uniquely theirs, they can use it to create happiness, bring value, and make a meaningful impact in the lives of others. Possibly, that is why his journey feels less like a change of career and more like a continuing search. Each chapter has added another piece to the question he keeps exploring: how can people understand themselves better, live with greater purpose, and use what they have within them to make life more meaningful for someone else?

Finding Purpose Through Reinvention

A career that spans corporate leadership, entrepreneurship, consulting, coaching and music therapy might appear to follow very different paths, yet some journeys are held together by a deeper philosophy rather than a fixed plan. For Dr. Sarda, each chapter became another stage of self-discovery, where every new direction revealed capabilities that had been waiting to be uncovered.

“Pablo famously said – The meaning of Life is to find your Gift and the Purpose of Life is to give it away,” he shares, describing it as the central thread of his life’s journey of continuous self-discovery, reinvention and transformation.

He believes finding one’s gift means discovering the hidden, unique capabilities every individual possesses, while giving it away means using those gifts to add value to someone else’s life. Many of these gifts remain untapped because of fear, uncertainty and the reluctance to walk untrodden paths. Throughout his own journey, he deliberately chose those untrodden paths, continually discovering new “gifts” within himself through music, spiritual seeking, coaching and mentoring.

His transition from a successful corporate career into music, spirituality, life coaching and mentorship was never a carefully designed strategic plan. Instead, it became an evolving transformational journey. “Reinvention isn’t about becoming someone new; it’s about becoming the version of you that your Destiny has been waiting for,” he reflects.

“Continuous reinvention and transformation are simply the art of staying wonderfully unfinished,” he says, describing himself as remaining in a permanent “work in progress” stage.

Choosing Relationships Over Transactions

Professional success often prompts people to ask what comes next. For Dr. Sarda, the answer emerged through a deeper reflection on happiness and purpose, leading him away from transactional success toward work centred on meaningful human connection.

“The Pursuit of Happiness is the common endeavour of all,” he says, while acknowledging that happiness means something different to every individual.

He realised that genuine happiness comes from giving happiness to someone else. Over time, he felt corporate environments had become increasingly transactional, where the satisfaction of creating value selflessly was often overshadowed by zero-sum thinking.

That realization encouraged him to choose a relationship-driven approach rather than transactional one. With the objective to reach out to the individual on a personal level so that he could contribute in some way to do some value addition in enhancing happiness and positivity, he chose the mediums of Music, Books, Spirituality and Coaching, all offered on a completely pro bono basis.

That people-first philosophy now shapes his efforts on all his endeavours.

Building Before Scaling

Entrepreneurship rarely follows a straight path. Every stage brings fresh challenges that require founders to balance ambition with adaptability, while laying foundations capable of supporting long-term growth rather than chasing early momentum alone.

Dr. Sarda describes entrepreneurship as a journey filled with turbulent waters, strong undercurrents and dangerous whirlpools involving commercial viability, sustainability, scalability, technology and changing market dynamics.

The first mistake he frequently sees is underestimating the complexity of the journey while overestimating personal capabilities. Many founders believe success will arrive quickly without fully appreciating the demands ahead.

Another common challenge is becoming too attached to preconceived plans. Every day introduces new realities that require plans to evolve, and delaying necessary adjustments can become disastrous.

Above all, he believes founders must never focus only on the destination while neglecting the means of getting there.

“The Means are as important, if not more important than the End,” he says, emphasizing that strong value systems, ethical discipline and an unwillingness to take shortcuts become essential before pursuing aggressive growth.

Music as Medicine for the Soul

His belief that sustainable transformation begins from within eventually found another expression through music

Creative pursuits sometimes reveal possibilities that professional experience alone cannot uncover. For Dr. Sarda, learning the Santoor during the later part of his corporate career became the beginning of an entirely new way of serving people.

Playing the instrument created a profound sense of connection with himself. More importantly, he noticed how its soothing, peaceful environment influenced positive emotions among listeners.

“It was like medicine for their souls,” he says.

He became increasingly aware of the pain surrounding cancer patients and their families, corporate executives struggling with stress and burnout, homemakers searching for purpose, and younger generations seeking answers to questions no one seemed able to explain. That awareness led him to expand beyond the Santoor by incorporating instruments like the Handpan, Djembe and Zendrum, creating music therapy sessions both live and through his YouTube channel.

The COVID-19 pandemic became a defining moment in this journey. Beginning in March 2020, he released one music video every day for 50 consecutive days, an experience that permanently shaped the direction of his musical work.

Music, however, became only one expression of a broader philosophy centred on strengthening human resilience.

Building Cultures That Strengthen People

Modern workplaces demand resilience from leaders, yet pressure alone rarely creates lasting performance. Dr. Sarda believes organizations become stronger when positivity is treated as a strategic advantage rather than an emotional luxury.

Professional environments, he observes, have increasingly become battlefields where people fight multiple pressures simultaneously. The culture of “perform or perish” has gradually pushed aside many traditional values built around relationships and ethics.

He believes founders and CEOs can change that trajectory by creating cultures rooted in optimism, workplace happiness, mutual trust and respect.

“I used SQ and EQ to develop HQ,” he explains, describing how Spiritual Quotient and Emotional Quotient together help build Happiness Quotient, while considering IQ almost a given.

Pressures, failures and uncertainty will always exist, he believes. Success depends less on avoiding them and more on creating systems that encourage catalysts of positivity and enhancers of happiness throughout the organization. That mindset also distinguishes people who continue evolving long after achieving success.

Staying Wonderfully Unfinished

Long careers often tempt people to rely on past achievements. Dr. Sarda believes lasting growth comes from remaining willing to become someone new repeatedly.

Continuous reinvention, he explains, demands high risk appetite, excitement for untrodden paths and fearlessness about making mistakes.

“Life is all about making mistakes and death is wishing you had made some more,” he says. He has always believed that regretting what remains undone is far more painful than making an imperfect attempt. “I have always tried to lead a life – Dil-Se, with no regrets.” His willingness to embrace uncertainty also shapes how he balances analysis with instinct.

Balancing Logic and Intuition

Leadership rarely depends on logic or intuition alone. Important decisions require knowing when each deserves to take the lead.

Dr. Sarda imagines two invisible characters inside every decision-maker’s mind: Mr. Logic, who whispers, “Let’s be sensible,” and Mr. Intuition, who whispers, “Let’s be legendary.”

“Logic saves you from launching products nobody asked for; intuition saves you from becoming a mundane just another entity,” he says. Rather than choosing between them, he prefers letting logic illuminate the path while intuition chooses the rhythm.

“I try to let logic calculate the route and let intuition choose the destination.” Years of observing leaders across different industries reinforced another lesson he wishes he had embraced even earlier himself.

Lessons That Arrived with Experience

Every leader leaves behind both examples worth following and habits worth avoiding. Dr. Sarda believes his own growth came from learning equally from both.

Throughout his leadership journey, he absorbed humility, determination, passion, focus and team spirit from seniors and colleagues. Yet looking back, he feels patience, compassion, equanimity and equipoise could have developed much earlier.

“If I had understood the importance of these earlier,” he reflects, “I would have sought to lead with better intention, vision, awareness and timing.” Those human qualities become even more significant as technology transforms the future of work.

Upgrading the Human Operating System

Artificial Intelligence may reshape how organizations work, but Dr. Sarda believes technology alone will never determine success. Human beings must continue upgrading themselves alongside the tools they create.

He expects tomorrow’s workplace to become increasingly AI-driven, with efficiency continuing to improve.

Failure, however, is less likely to come from technology than from people forgetting to update their own internal software. By internal software, he means mindset, emotional intelligence, self-awareness, adaptability, courage, intuition and values.

“Our laptop gets updates every week. Our phone updates overnight. But our internal software… often hasn’t been updated since ages,” he observes. His own life outside work reflects that same commitment to continuous inner growth.

Living a Life Without Regrets

Adventure, spirituality and music have never existed separately from Dr. Sarda’s professional life. Together, they shaped his understanding of purpose, risk and fulfilment.

“I think life should be measured not by the number of breaths you take but the number of breathtaking moments that you experienced,” he says.

Whether through adventure sports, music or spiritual seeking, he continues creating those moments while holding onto his guiding belief that life’s meaning lies in discovering one’s gifts and its purpose lies in giving them away.

Living without regrets, for him, means allowing those gifts to keep finding new expressions.

A Legacy of Human Transformation

After decades of leadership followed by years devoted to consulting, mentoring, coaching and music, Dr. Sarda no longer measures success through awards or recognition. The impact he hopes to leave behind is far more personal.

“The Awards, Recognition, Appreciation that I received from time to time, do not motivate me,” he says.

Real satisfaction comes when he can offer solace to someone searching for purpose, bring happiness through music, support an entrepreneur during difficult moments, or help younger generations discover meaning in ancient wisdom.

Projecting forward, he hopes to reach an even wider audience, particularly Gen Z and Gen Alpha, helping them navigate a world increasingly shaped by short-form content, harmful influencers and social media addiction. Ultimately, his life’s work continues to return to the same simple philosophy that has guided every chapter of his journey: discovering one’s gifts, sharing them generously, and remaining forever willing to become the next version of oneself.
